Zipcar HQ moving to six-floor Hub Innovation District office building By Ira Kantor/ BostonHerald.com Wednesday, December 5, 2012Cambridge-based car-sharing company Zipcar Inc. said today it will officially drive into its new corporate headquarters at 35 Thomson Place in the Hub’s Innovation District in the second quarter of next year.
The new office will encompass all six floors of the 46,000-square-foot building, located in the Fort Point district of South Boston, and include car-sharing spaces outside, company officials said.
The move comes as a result of conversations years ago between Zipcar Chairman and CEO Scott Griffith and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.
“The six-floor building we’ll exclusively call home will provide a great environment for our team of passionate and talented employees,” Griffith said. “Efficiency and sustainability are primary themes both in the design of our office space as well as the building’s prime location.”
Zipcar has been headquartered in Cambridge since the company was founded in 2000. More than 200 employees will move to the new location. Zipcar also has a European headquarters located in Wimbledon in the United Kingdom.
Margulies Perruzzi Architects will provide interior architecture and corporate design services, while Cresa Boston will provide brokerage and project management services for the new office.
